Founded in 1881, New Jersey Institute of Technology is New Jersey's public polytechnic university and a Carnegie R1 research institution. More than 13,000 students study here, including 9,500 undergraduates and 3,400 graduate students. Roughly 1,900 international students from 79 countries join students from 40 U.S. states.

A 16 to 1 student to faculty ratio and nearly 350 tenure-track professors keep classes close. Six colleges deliver 52 undergraduate programs, 68 graduate programs and 12 accelerated programs: Newark College of Engineering, Ying Wu College of Computing, Jordan Hu College of Science and Liberal Arts, Martin Tuchman School of Management, Hillier College of Architecture and Design, and the Albert Dorman Honors College.

The campus has grown substantially over the past decade. Seven residence halls, a 190,000 square foot Campus Center, the Wellness and Events Center and a dozen dining locations sit within a compact urban campus, and over half of first-year students live in residence.
